Donez Xiques was born in
Staten Island, New York, and received her Ph.D. from Fordham University.
She is Professor of English Emerita at Brooklyn College of the City
University of New York. Donez Xiques also has taught at the University
of Leeds (U.K.), Notre Dame College of Staten Island, and The Men’s
House of Detention (Rikers Island).
Her articles have appeared in many journals including Canadian
Literature and Canadian Notes and Queries. She was the recipient of a
Fulbright Fellowship for research in Canada, a Wolfe Faculty Fellowship
from Brooklyn College, and Canadian Embassy Faculty Enrichment awards.
She is a member of the following professional organizations: the Modern
Language Association, the American Association of University Women, the
National Writers’ Union, the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, and the
Association of Canadian College and University Teachers. In addition,
she is an active member of the Sierra Club and the New Jersey Audubon
Society.
Her hobbies include coastal kayaking and photography. She divides her
time between her homes in Nova Scotia and New Jersey.
